Biography
A native Houstonian, Korean-American flutist Dr. Julee Kim Walker is Professor of Flute at Texas A&M University-Commerce, where she has been teaching since 2012. She also serves as the Assistant Head for the School of Music. She is twice the recipient of the TAMUC Paul W. Barrus Distinguished Faculty Award for Teaching.
A highly sought-after performer and pedagogue, Dr. Walker has given performances and classes throughout the US, as well as in China, Croatia, Austria, Chile, Italy, and Argentina. She performs regularly with the Fort Worth Symphony and FlutAria! trio, and has also performed with the the Dallas Winds, Dallas Theater Company, The Dallas Symphony, Fort Worth Opera, The Dallas Opera, Lyric Stage, Mount Vernon Music and Shreveport Symphony.
Dr. Walker is dedicated to the flute community through service, music education, and mentorship. She previously served on the Executive Board of the Texas Flute Society as Vice President, and on the Executive Board of the National Flute Association as Secretary. She is Artistic Director of the Texas Summer Flute Symposium, and also serves as a career mentor through her Career Mentorship Program.
She received her degrees from The University of Texas at Austin, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and University of North Texas.
